Christmas in HK/Macau 23-28 Dec 2014

It was in year 2001 that me and hubby travelled to HK/Shenzen/Guangzhao during Christmas season.  So we decided to bring our kids as we wanted them to experience Christmas atmosphere there.

Day 1 (23 Dec 2014) Tuesday
It was an 3.5 hours flight from KL, landed in HK at 12.30 pm, board a cab for 5 pax HKD121 to our AirBNB accommodation at Soy Street, Foo Tat Building 2nd floor.  After our lunch, we explored Kowloon shopping streets (Women Street/Tung Choi Street, Fa Yuen Street, Sai Yong Choy Streets).

We had our dinner at Chan Kee Roasted Goose at Mongkok.  After dinner, we left for MTR, bought Octopus card to Central exit D2, visited Lan Kwai Fong, famous for its pub area.

Octopus card could be used for MTR, Ferry, Bus and even meals not forgetting convenience shops.

Day 2 (24 December 014) Wedneday
We had our brunch at Good Hope Noodle at Sai Yee Street for Wanton noodle and porridge for total bill HKD193. I highly recommended this place for their noodle and porridge were so good.

Then using MTR to Tsim Sha Tshui, we board Star Ferry to Central (choose the upper deck of the ferry), Hong Kong Island. Wait for the Peak Tram Shuttle Bus 15C from Central near Star Ferry Pier 6 Bus Terminus to Garden Road. You will alight right in front of the Peak Tram Station. While waiting for the tram to Victoria Peak, we were entertained by a group of youngster doing Christmas Carolling. Sit on the right side of tram for better view.

My children except the elder son went to Madam Tussauds, entrance fee cost HKD280 per pax (inclusive peak tram return) while me and hubby had coffee enjoying the beautiful view. Elder son who loves photography went around capturing photos using his Nikon camera.

Had our dinner at Tim Ho Wan located at IFC Mall, famous for their baked char siew bun.  However, be prepared to queue.  The dinner cost us HKD235. Then back to TST for Symphony of Lights at 8 pm and strolled along Avenue of Stars where you could witness plaque of movie stars and Bruce Lee's statue.  There were indeed lots of people as it was Christmas Eve at Victoria Harbour.

Day 3 (25 December 2014) Thursday
Was afraid of too many people in Ocean Park, I have decided to go to Lantau Island instead.

We took MTR from Mongkok station to Tung Chung Station. Get off Exit B behind City gate outlet Mall, transfer to Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car. You have a choice of either Standard or Crystal Cabin (with glass bottom).  We bought online HKD115 for one way standard cabin for 20 minutes ride which gave us a beaufitul view of the mountains of Lantau Island, Tung Chung town and Hong Kong airport. Do take note is better to buy online as you might need to queue an hour for the cable car ticket.

Once we reached, the rain started to pour.  Had our brunch at Ngong Ping Garden Restaurant which was quite costly and the food was not up to my expectation.  Then we stroll along Ngong Ping Village and then Tian Tian Buddha, the world tallest outdoor bronze sitting Buddha statue at over 20m in height.

Instead of waiting for Bus 21 or 21S, we took taxi to Tai O Fishing Village.  Once we reached there, we paid HKD25 per adult for 20 minutes boat ride to witness the stilt houses and was hoping to spot rare pink dolphin which we were not so lucky.  After the boat ride, we walked into the Tai O street, full of local snacks and fresh seafood.  We saw another boat operator charging only HKD20 per adult for boat ride!

We had seafood meal at one of the restaurant there.  We purchased the fresh seafood and had the restaurant to cook for us but the high bill surprised us.

Then we board Lantao Bus 11 from Tai O to Tung Chung Bus Terminal and had a brief window shopping at Citygate Outlet Mall.  From Tung Chung Bus Terminal, we took MTR back to Tsim Sha Tsui.

Day 4 (26 December 2014) Friday
Knowing the kids would not be able to wake up early, we decided to skip Repulse Bay.  We had our dim sum at United Center Metropol Restaurant and then took the bus to Ocean Park. Entrance ticket cost RM125 per adult which we bought through local KL travel agent, cheaper than you purchase through Ocean Park website.

There are 2 parts, the waterfront and summit where you either travel up by Cable Car or Ocean Express Train.  We travelled up by cable car and when returned by Ocean Express Train.  The view was spectacular by cable car.  My elder son left the park earlier than us to meet up his photography friends. Whereas the other 2 had fun with thrill rides, saw the penguins, watched the dolphin show.

We also visited the panda located near the waterfront.

We returned by minibus straight to Mongkok and had our dinner at Tsui Wah Restaurant famous for Hainanese Chicken Rice and milk tea located at Portland Street, Mongkok since we decided not to having seafood dinner at famous Jumbo Restaurant where you could go by taxi ride of 15 minutes away from Ocean Park.

Day 5 (27 December 2014) Saturday
We left our homestay early as we wanted to catch the Cotaijet ferry at 9.00 am leaving for Macau at HKD177 per person.  We booked a cab to HongKong China Ferry terminal at Canton Road,Tsim Sha Tshui. Our ferry was direct to Taipa Ferry Terminal Macau.  Took the hotel shuttle, left our baggage, and went by cab to visit Ruin St Paul's Catherdral, St Dominique Church, Senadi Square. Tried their famous pork chop bun and bought some almond cookies, egg rolls and jerky from their famous Koi Kei Bakery.

After checking into hotel, everyone had a good rest due to early woke up that morning.  We later had dinner at Seng Cheong Restaurant, a popular chinese restaurant located at Rua Do Cunha Street in Old Taipa Village, famous for its signature dish: the Crab Congee. Thumbs up for all the dishes we ordered here.

Day 6 (28 December 2014) Sunday
By Cotaijet which cost HKD256.00, we returned to HK departing at 1030 hrs reaching HK Airport by 1130 hrs.  We could not take the next ferry which only depart at 1155 hrs.

Return to KL with our flight depart HK at 1405 hrs with a sweet memory.
